Both the individual project and the group project will have a paper and a presentation component, which will carry equal weights.

Aside from the Fall Recess (
Friday, October 10th & Monday, October 13th) and Thanksgiving (Wednesday, November 26th & Friday, November 28th), please note that there will be no class on Friday, November 21st.


Information about the individual projects

Individual Paper Description: Students will be assigned newspaper or magazine articles that address issues related to money and central bank policy. The report should include an executive summary and a personal comment.

Individual Paper Necessities: The below cited are technicalities that must be fulfilled in order for the paper to be accepted.

1.     Length between 1 and 2 pages, double spaced.
2.     Have 1.25” margins on left and right, and 1” margins on top and bottom.
3.     Use “Courier”/“Courier new” or equivalent font, size 12.
4.     If the report exceeds one page, pages must be stapled (No paper clips or folded corners).


Information about the group proposals

Group Proposal Description: Each group will prepare a proposal or outline of the project they plan to undertake.

Group Proposal Necessities: Same as the individual paper necessities above.


Information about the group projects

Group Paper Description: The broad topic of the essay is to examine the future of money, financial institutions and monetary policy. In particular you can focus your attention on the following (non-exhaustive) list of sub-topics:

-    Moving towards a cashless society
-    Financial innovation and new financial instruments
-    The role of monetary policy in the absence of money
-    Will national currencies disappear in the future?

Group Paper Necessities:
The below cited are technicalities that must be fulfilled in order for the paper to be accepted.

1.     No less than 20 and no more than 30 pages, double spaced.
2.     Have 1.25” margins on left and right, and 1” margins on top and bottom.
3.     Use “Courier”/“Courier new” or equivalent font, size 12.
4.     Relevant graphs/tables must be inserted electronically (i.e. do not paste/draw graphs in).
5.     Pages must be stapled (No paper clips or folded corners).
6.     Include a reference section at the end.
7.     Cite at least 5 articles/books as references
8.     Direct quotations must be cited. Paraphrasing statements that are an opinion and clearly not common knowledge must be cited.

Reference Materials: The “Econlit” database on “Galileo” will provide very helpful in the process of searching for articles/books. You may also consult other non-academic journal sources such as The Wall Street Journal, The Economist, BusinessWeek, etc.

Finally, you may also access a website with several library and data resources, which was designed especially for the Money and Banking course.


Information about the individual and group presentations

Individual Presentations: Each student will have 10 minutes to present the report. There will be 3 presentations in each of the below mentioned dates, followed by a general class discussion. Individual reports will be due on the day of the presentation.

Group Presentations: Each group will have 30 minutes to present their project. There will be one presentation in each of the below mentioned dates, followed by a general class discussion. Final versions of group papers are due on Friday, December 5th.
