SERIALS CONTROL IN 99.4: WHAT’S NEW, WHAT’S COOL!

Creating a Control: If you are creating a control on a MARC record with the appropriate value in the Frequency fixed field (m = monthly, etc.), the Patterns folder in the Control Record is AUTOMATICALLY filled in! How cool is that?

If you’re not using a MARC record, you can still benefit from a wonder of automation. In the Modify a Serial Control wizard it is called the Replace Patterns helper. In the Create a Serial Control wizard it is called the Fill in Patterns helper. This time-saving helper provides default information for all necessary fields of the Pattern folder in one step.

When you check-in an item out of the normal sequence, 99.4 automatically "knows" where it should land in relation to the other check-ins. It won’t throw it at the bottom of the check-ins like before!

Comments appear in "Check-in: Special Instructions" on the same page as the expected issue to check-in! This means you don’t have to scroll down a page to see where the issue goes once it’s been checked in. Also, if you change the tag of the first line to read: Physical Form (instead of Note), half of the information from the first line will appear in the "box" on the top whenever you’re viewing the control information.

If the Enumeration and Chronology are the same: [June 2000 June 2000], it will only appear once in the 866 field. Imagine that.
