How to Distinguish Bibliographic Formats in EUCLID

The following format descriptions are intended as a quick reference for identifying records for the eight OCLC-defined Bibliographic Formats. Not every detail of every format is listed, but more than enough information is provided for users to accurately determine the format of any EUCLID record.

Note: When comparing OCLC and EUCLID records, be aware that OCLC and EUCLID use different mnemonic tags for the same fixed-field elements. A comparison chart follows the format descriptions.

This OCLC format is not used in the General Libraries. The item in hand is cataloged by its predominant format. Special Collections may import RLIN records to catalog archival and manuscript collections.
