UNIEVENTS

Holger Schmidt (GWU) and I are currently coding data on UN involvement in interstate crises. Starting with the International Crisis Behavior data, we are developing an events-level dataset that captures over 40 different types of actions undertaken by the UNSC, UNGA or Secretary General. We have received generous funding for this project from the Folke Bernadotte Academy, and we are grateful for the graduate and undergraduate students working on this project.

UN Security Council Resolutions

I am coding information on all UNSC Resolutions from 1946 to 2009. The information is recorded such that there is one observation per different type of action that the UN takes in its resolutions. The primary purpose of the data is to identify UN activity regardless of whether conflict is present or not and thereby assist studies of both conflict prevention and conflict management. In addition to the type of UN activity, I am also collecting information on the targets of the resolutions, the relevance of the resolutions to interstate or intrastate conflict, and the votes.
