"Hammerhead and Redfish" Oil on canvas, 10"x8" wide. Artist Commentary: The Scalloped Hammerhead shark (Spyrna lewini) range is worldwide in tropical and warm temperate seas. Their habitat is pelagic, but they also occur near shore, especially around seamounts or submerged reefs. Redfish (Sciaenops ocellatus) occur in coastal waters. These are the fish popularized by "blackening", and as a result are largely protected from commercial fishing. My intent with this painting was to capture the beauty and majesty of both species.
