Artist Commentary: Perhaps because of a perversity of my nature, I've always loved night creatures. And flying squirrels, being so elusive, have often been a favorite. With this image, I was also starting to play with some "fairy tale" thoughts, and "Canto I" refers to the opening of Dante's Inferno, wherein the protagonist, "having lost his way in a gloomy forest, and being hindered by certain wild beasts from ascending a mountain, is met by Virgil...."
