Artist Commentary: I spent Saturday painting in Rhovanion, in a northeastern nook of Mirkwood. A springtide squall had toppled trees, and the welcome sunlight seared the hoary trunks of ancient oaks. While I rendered the Elven path and the bluish haze, a sword-girt Hobbit passed by, bewildered by the brightness. He would not tarry, but dashed on into the darkness in pursuit of his Dwarvish companions.
