Artist Commentary: After the feasting and celebration at Lake Town, Bilbo, Thorin and company proceeded by boat to the northern end of the lake, and thence on ponies into the wastelands of Smaug; these were the bleak and burned lands surrounding the Lonely Mountain. In this painting, Bilbo and the Dwarves proceed north and east towards the Mountain as the sun is setting and the mists are rising from the lake.... |
