Artist Commentary: I recently did a painting for a friend who was writing about the five main hobbits in the Lord of the Rings. In that painting I placed Merry, Frodo, Bilbo, Pippin, and Sam in Rivendell. In this painting I've tried to depict the four younger Hobbits as children, and Bilbo gazing at them amused while on one of his long walks.
