Artist Commentary: Elrond Half-elven was Lord of Rivendell, and was one of the mighty rulers of old that remained in Middle-earth in its Third Age. His house was an outpost on the treacherous road through the Misty Mountains, and it served as a place of refuge for the line of Isildur and the Dúnedain. This image was originally published in Mallorn No. 42 in August, 2004. Mallorn is the British Tolkien Society's annual scholarly journal
