Artist Commentary: Lúthien was the only child of Thingol, king of Doriath, and his queen, Melian the Maia. The story of Lúthien's courtship and wedding of Beren One-Hand is one of the greatest tales in The Silmarillion. To prevent her aiding Beren and so endangering her own life, she was locked into a house in the trees of Doriath.
