Artist Commentary: The Mearas were a proud race of wild horses in the north of Middle-earth. They descend from Felaróf, who was tamed by the first King of Rohan, Eorl. They may ultimately be descended from Nahar, the horse of the Vala Oromë. This was a first attempt on my part to capture the sense of power and intelligence in these mighty creatures.
