Artist Commentary: Queen Beruthiel remains a fascinating figure for most Tolkien folk...especially for those who love cats. This queen, whose history is only sketched out briefly (and only mentioned once by Aragorn, with little explanation, in The Lord of the Rings, was described in Unfinished Tales. She was a queen of Gondor whose intrigues (in which she used her cats as spies) eventually led to her banishment and exile.
