"Lone Islands Dragon" Oil on wood, 31"x24" wide. Artist Commentary: This oil on wood wildlife silhouette depicts a young Lone Islands dragon, which is one of the relatively rare species normally found on the Irish coast. "Lone Islanders" were frequently encountered in seaside caves in Ireland at the turn of the last century. With their fierce looks and "spidery" limbs, it may be that this species was the inspiration for the dragon encountered by Eustace Scrubb in C. S. Lewis' The Voyage of the Dawn Treader. |
