The Magic Ring Baron de la Motte Fouqué Artist Commentary: This work, which was considered Baron de la Motte Fouqué's masterpiece, is a knightly tale of chivalry, romance, magic, and the triumph of virtue over evil set during the time of the 3rd Crusade. A seamless blend of medieval quest, epic fantasy, and Gothic nightmare, The Magic Ring draws on an impressive host of inspirations, such as Germanic folk tales and Icelandic sagas, Arthurian romance and Gothic horror. Its author, Baron de la Motte Fouqué...paved the way for later luminaries of fantasy such as William Morris, George MacDonald, and J.R.R. Tolkien. Including two colour painting images on front and back covers and over 40 full page black and white illustrations inside, this is the first time this timeless work has ever been produced in an illustrated, hardbound format. I was privileged to have had a hand in resurrecting this timeless tale. |
