Jessica Harrell, B.A. (2002), North Carolina State University. Research and teaching interests: American politics; public opinion/voting behavior; campaigns and elections; gender politics, especially the role of gender in elections and issues related to women’s political representation and participation in politics. Dissertation project investigates differences in campaign strategies between men and women and uses extant theories of campaign strategy to understand when and why gender differences might occur in congressional campaigns. Other current research explores the effects of descriptive representation on citizens’ political engagement.
