Julian Alexander Bragg
While at
Georgia Tech, I worked in the Laboratory
for Neuroengineering, under
Dr. Steven DeWeerth.
My thesis (warning, big .PDF) work
involved
the modeling of mammalian motor units by using custom analog VLSI
circuits
to build real-time models of the major components (motoneurons,
sarcomere
calcium dynamics, and sarcomere crossbridge dynamics) and then tying
them
together. During this process, I also developed a number of other
useful
circuit building blocks, including a highly flexible voltage correlator
and an easily programmable nonvolatile on-chip analog
storage array. The overly dramatic photo to the left was taken for
a
program brochure, explaining the lighting. The messier photo to the
right
is a much more realistic depiction of my work environment. In my
defense,
it was taken on a particularly bad day.
I spent my undergraduate years as an engineering student at GWU. I also sang with the GW Troubadours,
a 15-voice contemporary a cappella group. Having been bitten by the
bug, I went on to sing with a number of semipro a cappella groups,
including Free Range Cattle and Local Vocals (Audience Favorite, 1998
DC Regional Harmony Sweepstakes). I'm not doing any contemporary a
cappella right now, but if you happen to know of any groups in the
Atlanta area looking for a baritone with a completely random schedule,
drop me a line.

I got
married in February of 2002 to Sarah Brosnan, a Ph.D. student in
biology at Emory. The photo to the left is from our trip to San
Francisco. We also drove down to LA and spent
some time at the La Brea Tar Pits, which we highly recommend. Later, with the threat of an impending child, we traveled to the Galapagos Islands, which remains one of my favorite ways to spend surreal amounts of money in a very short period of time.
We currently live in Decatur, GA, and share the house with an extremely neurotic cat named Vida and an empirically cute little boy named Carter.
