News I will be giving several talks at conferences and universities in the coming year. For more information on the dates, topics, and locations of these events, please see Appearances and Events. My most recent essay, "Misfits: A feminist materialist disability concept" appears in the 2011 summer issue of Hypatia: A Journal of Feminist Philosophy. I was honored to receive the Society for Disability Studies Senior Scholar Award for 2010. Emory has produced a short film on Staring, which features images from the book and the fall 2009 exhibition at Davidson College. Click here to view the film. My essay "Picturing People with Disabilities: Classical Portraiture as Reconstructive Narrative" in RE-Presenting Disability: Agency and Activism in the Museum (Routledge 2010), which I co-edited with Richard Sandell and Jocelyn Dodd, will be available from Routledge and Amazon on February 26, 2010. Staring is featured in the November 2009 Emory Report. The web article includes audio excerpts from the book and accompanying lecture. I was recently named by UTNE READER as one of "50 Visionaries Who Are Changing Your World." Library Journal recently listed Staring as the fourth bestselling book in philosophy, according to YBP Library Services. Staring: How We Look was featured in the May 15, 2009 Chronicle of Higher Education. Access "The Gaze, Reconsidered" by Peter Monaghan through your university library or at the Chronicle online or read it in PDF form here. |
